Information and data security

Everyone knows that physical assets and valuables need to be protected. It’s no coincidence that security companies and surveillance systems are so widespread.
It should come as no surprise that information and digital assets also need protection. Whether it’s an invention, source code, manufacturing know-how, copyrighted material, confidential meeting minutes, or any other type of sensitive data, such information represents something valuable that must be safeguarded.
And, of course, none of us would be particularly pleased to discover our family photos or personal documents circulating on the internet in a completely different—and potentially inappropriate—context.

Knowledge Is Power

Anyone familiar with Hungary’s former Data Protection Act (Act LXIII of 1992, sometimes referred to as the “Act of 50”) or the GDPR, which was already looming large in 2017 ahead of its enforcement in 2018, will have some understanding of what is at stake.

As the saying goes, knowledge is power. And if that’s true—and it certainly is—then knowledge and information are valuable assets that deserve protection.

Interestingly, however, we sometimes devote less attention to protecting information than we do to safeguarding even the packaging materials used in transporting goods. This contradiction is certainly worth considering.

After all, if we remember the story of Enigma, we know that intelligence gained by deciphering encrypted communications played a decisive role in World War II. Similarly, the outcome of the Battle of Thermopylae was ultimately determined not by brute force alone, but by information revealed to the enemy.

The same principle applies to our less dramatic everyday lives. Data theft can be extremely embarrassing for the organization affected, particularly because, once an incident becomes public, it can also seriously damage customer trust and market reputation.

Perhaps this is one reason why information security does not always receive the attention it deserves, even though statistics have suggested that the economic impact of cybercrime is comparable in scale to major illicit industries such as arms trafficking and the illegal drug trade.

Is 100% Protection Possible?

There is a solution for every problem. However, the fact remains that none of these solutions is perfect. No firewall or antivirus software is completely impenetrable, just as no alarm system can guarantee absolute security.

Ultimately, it’s all about risks and probabilities. Nevertheless, the likelihood of a security breach or potential damage can be significantly reduced.

Let’s take a simple example: a car left with its windows down and the keys dangling in the ignition is far more likely to be stolen than one that is properly locked—especially if the latter is equipped with an alarm system, an immobilizer, or even a GPS tracking device.

The more advanced the security measures, the more likely it is that thieves and burglars will move on to an easier target. After all, criminals generally prefer the path of least resistance.

There is one thing we can certainly do to protect ourselves: make sure we're not the easiest target!

Beyond Offering Useful Advice, How Can We Help?

In the field of data and information security, we:

  • Assess the current level of security with the help of our own experts or specialized partners.

  • Provide purpose-built security solutions, either developed in-house or sourced from third-party providers, to address identified vulnerabilities and reduce risks. We also assist with integrating these solutions into existing systems.

  • Offer continuous professional support and technical assistance.

Speaking of asset protection, let’s also take a look at a solution designed to safeguard physical assets in situations where traditional security measures, such as surveillance cameras or perimeter alarm systems, are not practical or effective.

This is particularly relevant when it comes to protecting large, remote areas with limited infrastructure, such as forests, orchards, fishponds, and other extensive outdoor properties.
